EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the mesmerizing beauty of Weston Super Mare Pier at night. The recently redeveloped pier, situated in the charming town of Weston super Mare, holds a rich history dating back to its original construction in 1904. Back then, it boasted a magnificent 2,000 seat theatre that hosted various forms of entertainment including music hall performances, opera shows, stage plays, and ballet. However, tragedy struck when the pavilion was engulfed by fire in 1930. Determined to preserve this iconic landmark's legacy, a new pavilion was erected three years later. This new structure housed an expansive undercover fun fair that delighted visitors for decades to come. Despite facing another devastating fire incident in 2008 which completely destroyed the Grand Pier, hope prevailed as a remarkable £51 million investment breathed life back into this beloved attraction. Finally reopening its doors in October 2010 after extensive renovations and reconstruction efforts. The photograph showcases the pier's grandeur against the backdrop of darkness illuminated by dazzling lights reflecting on calm waters below. It serves as a testament to human resilience and determination to restore something cherished by generations past and present alike. C T Aylward's masterful capture invites viewers to appreciate not only the visual splendor but also feel connected with the enduring spirit that resides within Weston Super Mare Pier - an emblematic symbol of strength rising from ashes.
