EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the essence of nature's resilience amidst forgotten remnants of the past. In a picturesque scene at Dalles Mountain Ranch State Park, Washington State, an old abandoned car stands as a silent witness to the passage of time. Surrounding it are vibrant fields adorned with a mesmerizing blend of lupine and Arrow Leaf Balsamroot flowers. The Arrowleaf Balsamroot, scientifically known as Balsamorhiza sagittata, is native to North America and belongs to the sunflower tribe in the aster family. Its striking yellow flower heads add a touch of brilliance to this already enchanting landscape. As we admire this image, we can't help but be reminded that beauty can thrive even in unexpected places. It is fascinating to learn that explorer and botanist Meriwether Lewis encountered this very species near Lewis and Clark Pass back in 1806. The fact that these wildflowers have been flourishing across western Canada and much of the western United States for centuries only adds to their allure. Through Danita Delimont's lens, we are transported into a world where nature reclaims what was once man-made. This photograph serves as a reminder that despite our ever-changing world, there will always be pockets of untouched beauty waiting to be discovered – if only we take the time to appreciate them.
