EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases Foigh-a-Ballagh, the triumphant winner of the Great St. Leger in 1844. The creator of this masterpiece remains unknown, but their talent for capturing the essence of this magnificent racehorse is undeniable. Foigh-a-Ballagh holds a significant place in history as the first Irish-bred horse to claim victory at the prestigious St Leger Stakes held in Doncaster. This remarkable animal was owned by Mr. Irwin, who acquired him from Mr. G. Knox of Brownstown House, Kildare. The image portrays Foigh-a-Ballagh's impressive physical attributes and noble temperament with great precision. Standing at an imposing height of fifteen hands three and a half inches, he possesses a well-proportioned body with a strong head set on a graceful neck. His powerful shoulders are complemented by straight backlines, arched loins, and long quarters that culminate in a high-set tail.
