The assembly lines at the GEC factory (later to become Morphy Richards) were relocated from Birmingham after the Second World War due to a shortage of skilled labour, which preferred the car industry as it paid better wages. The Morphy Richards facility still stands on the site, but products are now imported from foreign manufacturers
