Currie Jet Wot G-APWT: A Jet-Powered Aviation Milestone This photograph showcases Currie Jet Wot G-APWT, a groundbreaking aircraft that first took to the skies on October 20, 1959. Initially fitted with a 70hp Rover TP.60/1 turboprop engine, this aircraft underwent several engine upgrades throughout its career. In November 1960, it was christened "Hot Wot" when powered by a Walter Mikron II engine. The following year, it was transformed into "Wet Wot" with the addition of floats, before being fitted once more with a 60hp Rover 1S.60 turboprop engine, which it flew on January 26, 1960. In 1961, the aircraft was upgraded yet again, this time to a 65hp Mikron III engine, and was temporarily named "Hotter Wot." However, it eventually reverted back to piston engine power. The Currie Jet Wot G-APWT is an intriguing example of the evolution of aviation technology during the late 1950s and early 1960s. Its versatility, as demonstrated by its various engine configurations, showcases the innovative spirit of the era and the relentless pursuit of faster, more powerful aircraft.
