Junior book-lovers flocked to the Pennine Hilton National Hotel to sample the delights of the third Examiner Book Binge. On the menu of attractions served up to nearly 200 youngsters were appearances by well-known authors and illustrators ? Jim Eldridge, Brough Girling, Tony Ross and Colin Hawkins ? who shared some of the secrets of their trade with the audience. And making sure the proceedings went with a bang was Kirkburtons Wilf Lunn, who laid on an exploding sausage and chips. All the youngsters were invited to attend in fancy dress and the theme was Out of this World. On the teatime bill of fare was fish fingers, chips (not of the exploding variety) and baked beans, followed by jelly and ice-cream. Compare for the event was the Examiners Paul Clark, who was accompanied by Miss Examiner, Maureen Wigton. The Book Binge was organised in conjunction with the Childrens Book Shop, Lindley, and Huddersfield Arts Council. Among the audience was a young lady from the other side of the world. Katherine Lewin who is seven years old and lives in Perth, Australia, is visiting her grandma in Elland and include a visit to the Book Binge in her holiday schedule. 23rd October 1990. Enterting into the party spirit are Leon Dowd (seven) and nine-year-old Sarah Norman

EDITORS COMMENTS
Junior book-lovers from near and far gathered at the Pennine Hilton National Hotel for a day of literary excitement at the third Examiner Book Binge. The event was a feast for the imagination, with appearances by renowned authors and illustrators such as Jim Eldridge, Brough Girling, Tony Ross, and Colin Hawkins. These talented individuals generously shared their trade secrets with an eager audience of nearly 200 youngsters. Adding to the festive atmosphere was Wilf Lunn from Kirkburton, who delighted everyone with his explosive sausage and chips. To make things even more magical, all attendees were encouraged to come dressed in fancy costumes following the Out of this World theme. The menu for this extraordinary gathering included classic favorites like fish fingers, chips (thankfully not exploding ones), baked beans, jelly, and ice-cream. The teatime bill of fare ensured that appetites were satisfied while imaginations soared. Paul Clark from the Examiner led proceedings alongside Miss Examiner herself, Maureen Wigton. This incredible Book Binge was made possible through collaboration between Huddersfield Arts Council and Lindley's Children's Book Shop. Amongst the captivated crowd was Katherine Lewin all the way from Perth, Australia. At just seven years old, she traveled across continents to visit her grandma in Elland and made sure to include a stop at this remarkable event in her holiday schedule. The joyous spirit of celebration can be seen radiating from Leon Dowd (seven) and Sarah Norman (nine) as they fully embrace the party atmosphere.
