EDITORS COMMENTS
This poignant photograph captures a tragic incident during the Second World War. The image shows a Bren Carrier, a military vehicle, submerged in a foot-deep stream after striking the parapet of a bridge on Countess Hill in Amesbury, Wiltshire. The aftermath is devastating - one soldier, Private A Fennel of the 12th Devons, lost his life in this unfortunate accident while four other soldiers were aboard the carrier. The impact caused the carrier to overturn onto its occupants, resulting in three serious injuries. One soldier managed to jump out just before it hit the parapet but was found unconscious on the road nearby. Amidst this chaos and tragedy, another soldier suffered from shock. Taken on August 6th, 1945, this picture serves as a somber reminder of the dangers faced by soldiers during wartime. It encapsulates not only their bravery but also highlights how even routine tasks could turn fatal within seconds. As we reflect upon this historical moment frozen in time through Memory Lane Prints' lens, let us remember those who sacrificed their lives for our freedom and honor their memory with gratitude and respect.
