EDITORS COMMENTS
The MV Domala, captured in this poignant photo print, stands as a haunting testament to the devastating impact of war. On 6th March 1940, between Hurst Castle and The Needles in the Solent, this once majestic vessel found itself beached after enduring a merciless attack by a Heinkel HE 111 of KG26 just days earlier. The scars of conflict are vividly evident on the ship's charred hull and twisted wreckage. Two sticks of bombs unleashed upon her set ablaze what was once a bustling hub of life and commerce. Tragically, out of the 291 individuals aboard that ill-fated day, 108 souls were lost forever. Among them were eighty-one Indian seamen who had been seeking repatriation from Germany. This image not only captures the physical devastation caused by war but also serves as a reminder of the profound emotional toll it exacts on nations and their people. In India, public anger towards Germany surged following this heinous act. As we gaze upon this photograph today, let us remember those whose lives were cut short amidst these turbulent times. May their sacrifice serve as an eternal call for peace and understanding among all nations.
