EDITORS COMMENTS
This print takes us back in time to the picturesque North Street in Lostwithiel, Cornwall, during the summer of 1966. Bathed in glorious sunshine, this charming street scene exudes a sense of tranquility and nostalgia. As we gaze upon the image, our eyes are drawn down North Street towards its junction with Monmouth Lane. The quaint buildings on either side seem frozen in time, preserving their unique architectural charm. On the right-hand side just before the parked cars, we catch a glimpse of Church Lane merging into this idyllic setting. The first two buildings on the left capture our attention - The Cottage (Number 20) and Woodclose (Number 21). Their traditional facades tell stories of lives lived within these walls for generations. We can almost imagine families going about their daily routines as they step out onto this historic street. Photographed by Charles Woolf, this snapshot beautifully encapsulates the essence of Cornish town life half a century ago. It transports us to an era where simplicity reigned supreme and community connections were cherished. This remarkable piece from Royal Cornwall Museum allows us to immerse ourselves in a moment frozen in time – an invitation to reflect upon how places evolve while cherishing their timeless beauty.
