Treryn Dinas, near Treen, St Levan, Cornwall. Around 1910

View from the landward side with a party of tourists visiting the Logan Rock, or rocking stone. A group can be seen at the base of the rock with others on top. Perched 30 metres above the sea, the naturally occurring piece of granite attracted tourists due to its ability to rock back and forth on the cliff top with the slightest touch. It was dislodged by a group of sailors in 1824 who were then forced to reposition it at their own expense. The headland of Treryn Dinas is also the site of an Iron Age promontory fort. Treryn Dinas - A Captivating Balance of Nature and History

EDITORS COMMENTS
. This print captures the enchanting Treryn Dinas, near Treen, St Levan in Cornwall, around 1910. The view from the landward side reveals a group of tourists visiting the renowned Logan Rock, an extraordinary rocking stone perched 30 meters above the sea. This naturally occurring piece of granite has long fascinated visitors due to its remarkable ability to sway back and forth with even the gentlest touch. Intriguingly, this unique rock holds a tale of defiance and restoration. In 1824, a group of sailors dislodged it from its precarious position as an act of mischief. However, they were swiftly compelled to rectify their actions at their own expense by repositioning it atop Treryn Dinas headland. Beyond its geological marvels lies another layer of history; Treryn Dinas is also home to an Iron Age promontory fort. This ancient site adds depth and intrigue to the already mesmerizing landscape. The photographer behind this evocative image remains unknown but has skillfully captured both the awe-inspiring beauty and historical significance that make Treryn Dinas such a popular tourist attraction today. As we gaze upon this snapshot frozen in time, we are reminded that nature's wonders can captivate our imagination while offering glimpses into our rich past.
