Wightman family Victorian picnic, Yorkshire, 1893
Arthur Wightman (1842 - 1924) is the figure on the far left of the photograph, partially obscured by a young lady in front of him, who is thought to be Annie Maud Wightman (1854 - 1940), one of Arthurs sisters. Arthurs wife Edith Wightman (1850 - 1943) can be seen fourth from the left, wearing a dark-coloured coat and hat. The two gentlemen in the centre of the photograph, sat towards the back, wearing caps and with cigars in their mouths, are possibly Benjamin Arthur Wightman (1873 - 1937), Arthurs eldest son and Henry Temple Wightman (1866 - 1920), Arthurs youngest brother, respectively.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures a delightful Victorian picnic, showcasing the Wightman family in Yorkshire back in 1893. The figure on the far left is believed to be Arthur Wightman, who played a significant role within this close-knit clan. However, his presence is partially obscured by a young lady identified as Annie Maud Wightman, one of Arthur's sisters. Edith Wightman, Arthur's wife and an integral member of the family, can be spotted fourth from the left. She stands out elegantly wearing a dark-colored coat and hat that exude timeless style. Two gentlemen seated towards the back steal some attention with their relaxed demeanor. Sporting caps and cigars in their mouths, they are likely Benjamin Arthur Wightman (Arthur's eldest son) and Henry Temple Wightman (Arthur's youngest brother), respectively. This cherished photograph offers us a glimpse into an era defined by simplicity and familial bonds. It showcases not only the fashion trends of Victorian Yorkshire but also reveals moments of joy shared during picnics - an activity beloved by families during that time. Preserved at Sheffield Libraries under reference arc02535, this historical gem allows us to appreciate both our ancestors' lives and the enduring beauty of family connections across generations.
