EDITORS COMMENTS
This poignant print captures a heartbreaking scene from the First World War, depicting wounded soldiers and dedicated staff in a hospital ward. Believed to be taken at The Sheffield Royal Hospital in 1916, this image is part of an invaluable collection of papers belonging to William Dermody. Serving with the Royal Warwickshire Regiment during the war, Dermody himself experienced the horrors of battle and was gassed during the infamous Battle of the Somme.
