EDITORS COMMENTS
This photo print, titled "From the profound abyss, behind the lid of a great monument we stood retired, c1890" transports us to a moment in time when Dante Alighieri and the Roman poet Virgil find themselves seeking refuge amidst craggy rocks. The image is an illustration from "The Vision of Hell" (Inferno), which is part of Dante's renowned literary masterpiece, "The Divine Comedy".
