EDITORS COMMENTS
A captivating night view of Inveresk House, located at the corner of Aldwych and Wellington Street in London's Strand, illuminates the rich history of Britain's illustrated weeklies. Once known as Borthwick House, this architectural gem played host to the offices of the Morning Post before transforming into the headquarters of the country's leading illustrated publications in 1928. The Great Eight, a prestigious collective of weekly magazines, made Inveresk House their home. The illustrious lineup included the Illustrated London News, the Graphic, the Sphere, the Sketch, the Bystander, the Tatler, Eve, and the Illustrated Sporting and Dramatic News. The names of these esteemed publications were proudly displayed down the side of the building, bathed in the soft glow of the night. The 1920s were an era of innovation and creativity, and Inveresk House stood as a testament to this period of transformation. The building's striking design, with its Art Deco influences and modern lighting, added to the allure of the bustling Strand. The red buses and the reflections of the streetlights in the wet pavement create an intriguing contrast to the grandeur of Inveresk House. As you gaze upon this image, you cannot help but be transported back in time, to an era when the illustrated weeklies held a significant place in British society. This night view of Inveresk House is not just a photograph; it's a window into the past, offering a glimpse into the history of journalism and the architectural beauty of London during the 1920s.
